Deviam / Freelancers

You already work for yourself. We bring the work.

This is not a recruitment page. If you run your own company and intend to keep running it, this is how independent professionals get into long engagements at Finland's most demanding customers — without giving up anything to do it.

Why through us

What you get that you can't get alone.

The hard part of working independently was never the work. It's finding the good work. The best engagements rarely reach the open market — they're filled through relationships you're not part of, or through frameworks held by intermediaries taking a large cut for forwarding a CV. Chasing them is unpaid time, and the ones you do find are often the leftovers.

The door

Customers you'd struggle to reach solo

Large organisations with mature engineering cultures, where the interesting problems are — and where procurement doesn't prefer single-person suppliers, however good the person is. We're already inside them, and the conversation starts from there rather than from a cold email.

The length

Engagements, not gigs

Our average engagement runs about two years. Not a two-week burst, not a body-shop rotation — long enough to do work you'd actually put your name on, and long enough to plan your future around.

The bar

The same standard as our own people

We don't run an A-team of employees and a B-list of subcontractors. One bar, one validation, one way of being represented. The customer is told plainly whether you're our employee or an independent, and it changes nothing about how you're treated.

The introduction

Presented by people who understand you

Our founders are engineers, and we've sat down with you before any of this. So a customer hears what you're actually good at, why you'd fit this team, and what you'd want out of it — not a summary of a document. Someone forwarding a PDF cannot do any of that.

The freedom

You stay independent

Your company stays your company. Work with other partners, take direct clients, say no to what we bring you. We'd rather be the partner you keep choosing than the one you're contractually stuck with.

The communication

Straight answers, including the unwelcome ones

You'll know where you stand: what the customer actually said, why something fell through, and a quick no when it's a no. We don't keep people warm with vague maybes, don't collect CVs to look bigger, and won't tell you what you'd rather hear.

The deal

What you can count on.

Our margin is a working margin, not a heist. In this industry a third or more of what the customer pays can disappear into the middle, and the person doing the work never finds out how much. Ours is a fraction of that — enough to find the engagement, sell it properly and stand behind you to the customer, and no more. We'd rather run a modest margin for years than a fat one once.

Most engagements land at 80–100 €/h for you. Much of the market sets its bottom well below that for the same seniority and fills the gap with volume. We'd rather turn an engagement down than build one on a rate we couldn't defend to the person doing the work.

Beyond that, the rate is a conversation. Tell us what the work needs to be worth for you to want it. Sometimes an engagement carries it and sometimes it doesn't — but you won't be handed a number and asked to take it or leave it, and you'll get a straight answer either way.

Nothing goes anywhere without talking to you first. Before we propose you we go through the actual project together — what the team is like, what they need, what you'd be walking into. That runs both ways: we're checking you're right for them, and that it's work you'd genuinely want. No mass-forwarding, no "we've already submitted you", no discovering you were put forward for something you'd have turned down.

The bar

Who we're looking for.

We'd rather be direct about this than waste your afternoon. Our customers need senior reinforcement, so that's who we can find work for.

01

Ten years, genuinely

Not ten years of a CV — ten years of doing the thing. Our average consultant has seventeen. If you're three years in and brilliant, we believe you, but we won't have work that fits, and saying so now is more useful than a polite maybe.

02

You can hold a room

You'll be embedded in someone else's team, with their standards and their politics. That takes explaining your reasoning to people who disagree, and knowing when the business reason beats the technical one.

03

We meet you first

A founder talks to every professional we represent — over half a thousand so far. It's not a screening funnel; it's the only way we can stand behind you to a customer. It also means you find out who you'd be working with before you commit to anything.

04

Fields we're asked for

Software development, testing and QA, data and AI, DevOps and cloud, design, and project, product and agile leadership.

Ready when you are

Start working with us.

There's no application, no portal and no form to fill in. Call, message, email or connect on LinkedIn — whichever you'd actually use. Send a CV if you have one to hand, or just ask a question first. A founder reads it and a founder answers.

Prefer a floor under you? There's a version of this with a salary.

Some independents eventually want the steadier arrangement — a salary, holiday pay, occupational healthcare, and someone else carrying the dry spells. We do that too, at the same rates of pay and the same bar. It's on the Join Deviam page, and moving between the two is a conversation, not a career change.
